Topaz is a long cherished stone,
found in the galleons the Old World and in the treasure chests of legendary pirates. However the history dates much further back than the stone itself.
Its name drives largely from ancient French and Greek etymology as well as ancient Egypt which tells a tale of The Land of Topaz: A mysterious island in the Red Sea with a location that was very difficult to find, with a soil that produces the stone of Topaz. The great philosopher Pliny stated that Topazos is a legendary island in the Red Sea, and the location that topaz was first mined. There is also a Sanskrit word "tapas" that means heat or fire, which may have influenced its name. In combination and variance we now have the name "Topaz".
It used to be so very rare to find blue topaz in jewelry due to it being so rare to find in nature. The vast majority of these stones today, have been heat treated to achieve their deep blue coloration. The stones presented here have a very light hue and are said by the mine to be a natural blue that has not been treated. Treated stones are a deep and vibrant blue as compared to this beautiful light baby blue presented in the stones that we offer.
A wonderful and not so common piece to add to your collection, or to be unique and give to anyone as a sincere gift for any occasion. Who wouldn't feel extraordinarily special to be the proud new owner of this magnificent natural blue gemstone. It's a real gem!
